What makes a good care giver?

Nurses and other care givers need quite a lot of qualities to make them great at what they do. Respect, knowledge, stability, flexibility, attention to detail, are just a few….. In Bamenda in particular, and Cameroon in general, the notion of customer service is perceived in a peculiar manner. The clients general seem to be making more of the effort to please the service personnel. Issues like this are more obvious to visitors from out of the country. Not only in hospitals in Bamenda or Cameroon, but in the health care domain in general, it is even more of a bitter pill to swallow if the patient has to please the personnel to be able to get quality service (this is a domain in which critical care itself is part of customer service).
In this post, we focus on the three C’s in this post.
1. Compassion
Awareness of and sympathy for someone else’s suffering is the basis of compassion. Our care givers realise they get to perform tasks that make a huge difference in a patient’s experience at our center.
Calmness
Remaining calm is vital when you need to make fast decisions when under pressure, or in a medical emergency.
Communication
Proper communication in such situations means far more than just giving asking a patient how they slept. While working one-on-one with patients, care givers need to pay attention to any changes in the situation of a patient.
